There are two things we look for when deciding what coffee shop to drop a few bucks at. Besides a quality brew (that’s a given!), it’s the design of the space and the delicious food they have to offer. One of Vancouver’s newest additions to the coffee pot, Nemesis, gives us both.
Owner, Jess Reno (one of 5), and contractor, Dallas Matson of Tetherstone Construction, worked closely to create a minimal space of thoughtful architectural lines. Our favourite part of the cafe, not surprisingly, is the custom built-ins and furniture. Go in and check out the industrial booths with their smooth pipe backs and matte black finish. They are so simply made and smooth; it’s a beautiful sight to see.
If you are hungry, Nemesis has you covered. With a reasonably priced menu, everything is made in-house and artfully plated for your devourment. Breakfast options are comprised mostly of fancy toast, which, who knew maple syrup on avocado was so good? After 10 AM, lunch is served and you should be ordering the pork belly. It tastes as good as it looks – trust.
The next time you are downtown and need a caffeine fix, it’s pretty obvious who we’re recommending you go place your order with. Go hungry and, if you can, take some time to chill and enjoy everything Nemesis has to offer.
