5 Modern Cabins We're Hibernating In This Winter

Our urge to cozy up and hibernate for the next few months is gaining strength with every degree dropped outside. And it’s not even officially winter yet! As the coldest part of the year starts to take hold, we can’t help but fantasize about hunkering down in an architectural masterpiece hidden deep in the woods. These are the top five cabins we'd want to hibernate in all winter.

1. Pioneer Cabin

bc cabin retreat

Location: Golden, BC
Architect: Form and Forest

The first cabin is located right here in beautiful BC! This modern mountain retreat, which can sleep up to eight people and offers awesome 180-degree views of the surrounding Rockies, can be rented for only $500.00 per a night. Not bad for a family or friend getaway!

2. Split Level Mountain Lodge

winter cabins

Location: Buskerud, Norway
Architect: Reiulf Ramstad Arkitekter

This Norwegian beauty owes its odd shape and multi-level interior to the terrain it was built on (follow the architect link to see more pics). Rooms were branched from the main building to keep the structure level without having to excavate into the hillside.

3. The Tubakuba Mountain Hub

modern cabin design

Location: Bergen, Norway
Architect: Espen Folgerø

What The Tubakuba Mountain Hub lacks in grandeur, it makes up for with innovation and character. The cabin’s curved, and tuba inspired, entrance became a symphonic reality during a design-and-build workshop held by the architect for students studying architecture in Norway. That class had better of received an A++ for this one!

4. Vindheim Cabin

Norwegian cabin design

Location: Lillehammer, Norway
Architect: Vardehaugen AS

The architects who designed the Vindheim Cabin wanted to blur the line between nature and architecture each winter when the cabin gets buried in snow. In fact, their design description encourages people to snowboard and toboggan down its snowcapped roof as if it were just another alpine slope!

5. Refugi Lieptgas

modern cabin

Location: Flims, Switzerland
Architect: Georg Nickisch + Selina Walder (Nickisch Sano Walder Architekten)

The cast concrete walls of this cabin are a modern take on traditional stack timbered construction. The exterior look of this cabin may seem modest, and a bit cold, but its fire heated interior has every comfort needed to achieve comfy cabin feels. Follow this link to see the cabin's ultra-cool soaker tub with rugged sub terrain view.
